First established over 100 years ago as The Marconi International Marine Co., SIRM UK Marine Ltd. is a leading provider of marine electronics solutions for communications, navigation, safety, security, welfare and support. We also provide the full range of satellite communications solutions including personal satellite communication products and services, enabling hand-held voice and data communication from virtually anywhere on the Earth’s surface.

The company has the ability to support the whole of the maritime industry, with more directly-employed marine electronics engineers than any other company and a network of regional offices around the country, and service representation around the globe thanks to our international network of partners and in group resources. The regional offices act as a first line of contact for customers, offer local expert knowledge – as well as engineering support – and are strategically based in, or near to, local ports and harbours.

There are dedicated, specialist sales teams for the commercial, fishing, offshore and leisure sectors based around the UK, as well as a dedicated team of surveyors and specific project management resources. We have dedicated specialist teams to identify suitable solutions, as well as providing the best products and the most comprehensive after-sales service.

Luca De Cesare

Director
Luca was appointed as the Director of SIRM UK in 2016 following the transition of the business from Selex ES. Luca has a strong background in Management Consultancy and the technology, with previous experience in the IT and Telecommunications sector working for Accenture and Telecom Italia. Prior to taking his position in SIRM UK, Luca gained 2 years’ experience as CEO in the Marine Electronics Sector in Italy. Luca is a married father of a daughter, and keen on sailing and anything about the sea.

Scott Gibson

Head of SIRM UK
Scott is the General Manager for SIRM UK, but he started his career in maritime in the early 2000’s when he joined Marconi Selenia as an Electronics Engineer. Scott spent several years ‘on the tools’ as an Engineer and MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) Surveyor, before transferring to Management in 2009 as UK Service Manager for Selex Communications. In 2015 Scott become the Head of the UK business segment during the transition from Selex ES to Leonardo UK, and later led the divestment of the business to SIRM UK in 2016. Scott was recently elected to become President of the International Ships Engineering Services Association by the Board of Directors at the AGM in 2024.

Ryan dawe

Head of Solutions
Ryan set sail on his Maritime career in 1997 when he joined Broadgate Ltd as an apprentice Field Service Engineer before moving to Marconi Marine in 2000. Ryan spent several years ‘on the tools’ as an Engineer and MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) Surveyor, before transferring to Sales Management in 2011 for Selex Elsag and then Regional Management in 2013. In 2018 Ryan started a new venture with Globavista where he worked with the industry to develop innovative SaaS platforms for fleet operations including tracking, security and decarbonization. Ryan rejoined the SIRM UK Family as Head of Solutions in 2024 where he now heads up the technical department including satellite connectivity for the Business. Ryan is a father of two boys, keen on outdoor activities and has recently fully immersed himself in Maritime by selling his bricks and mortar and buying a boat to live on.

Paul Cobb

Head of Service
Paul began his maritime career with the Royal Navy in 1989, gaining extensive experience ‘on the tools’ as an Engineer working on critical marine electronic systems, including radar, navigation and communications equipment. He later progressed into engineering leadership roles, building a strong operational foundation over a 25-year naval career. After leaving the Royal Navy, Paul joined SIRM UK in 2016 as a Principal Engineer. During his time with the business he worked as an Engineer, Surveyor and Project Manager, while also leading the Bristol and South Wales service region. He was later entrusted with leading the delivery of one of the company's largest global service contracts, together with complex international marine electronics installation and retrofit projects In 2019, Paul joined Jacobs Engineering as a Senior Project and Programme Management Consultant, supporting major UK Defence programmes. During his time with Jacobs, he specialised in project recovery, governance improvement and delivery performance, broadening his leadership experience in complex programme environments. Paul has built his career by combining hands-on engineering experience with a passion for solving increasingly complex technical and operational challenges. He rejoined SIRM UK in 2025 as Head of Service and now leads the UK service capability, overseeing domestic and international projects and global service contracts while supporting operational performance and the continued development of service capability. Outside of work, Paul enjoys travelling, creating memorable dining experiences for family and friends, and spending time with his two daughters.

Neil Duckworth

Finance Manager
Neil joined the team in 2018 after moving south the previous year. He started his career in the children’s licensed textile industry, before moving to a large multinational fire safety and equipment manufacture in the northwest of England. Neil moved to the south to head the southern finance team for a national rental company before joining SIRM as Finance manager. To escape the day-to-day finance world, Neil keeps active walking his dog, travelling around the Mediterranean, going to the gym and is a keen DIY tryer.

Greg Woodward

Sales Manager
Greg joined the business in 2001 and has worked with a wide range of global shipping companies and supply partners. He is responsible for helping customers to find innovative, cost effective electronics solutions to reduce operational spend, generate revenue and meet regulatory requirements.

Alan Nicholson

Sales Manager
Alan studied Marine Electronics at university but started his engineering career working in private mobile radio. After a few years, Alan came back Maritime and soon joined Marconi Marine as an Electronics Engineer focused on Communication and Navigation systems for all Classifications of Vessels. Since then, Alan has acquired over 25 years’ experience in the marine Nav/ Comm Sector, working with the commercial, fishing and leisure markets. Alan joined the business in 2001 as an engineer, quickly progressing to Principal Engineer and joined the company sales team in 2023 as a Sales Manager.

James Woodward

Sales Manager
Having begun his carrier within the UK maritime industry back in the early 2000’s, James has over 20 years’ experience, having previously worked for a few of the larger marine electronic manufacturers, including Transas and Sperry Marine, working with customers both in the UK and abroad across different sectors including commercial, leisure, superyachts and ports. James joined Sirm UK in July 2024 as Sales Manager, with a focus on using his knowledge and experience in ensuring customers are putting in place the right hardware and service solutions for their requirements.
